Mbappe has two weeks to decide whether to renew contract
On July 5th, Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi publicly addressed the issue of Kylian Mbappe's future during a press conference. He expressed his shock and disappointment at Mbappe's previous public statements about not renewing his contract. Al-Khelaifi made it clear that the club will not allow Mbappe to leave on a free transfer next year.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi said, "My position is very clear, and I don't want to repeat it every time: If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay, but he needs to sign a new contract with us. We don't want to lose the best player in the world for nothing; that is not possible."
"We are a French club, and Mbappe has previously said he will not leave on a free transfer. If he has changed his mind today, that's not my problem. We don't want to lose him for free; that is very clear."
Al-Khelaifi continued, "I am very shocked and disappointed by Mbappe's desire to leave on a free transfer next summer because that's not what Kylian should do."
"The Mbappe I know is a fantastic boy, a gentleman... to leave on a free transfer and cause harm to the biggest club in France? That's not Kylian! I repeat, I am very disappointed when I heard about this."
"Mbappe must make a quick decision, in the next week to ten days, or at most two weeks! If he is not prepared to sign a new contract, then the door is open, just like it is for anyone else! The club is above everyone, and no one can be above the club, including myself."
"From a football perspective, I have never seen the best player in the world leave his club on a free transfer, leave his country's club, and even more than that! Such a thing has never happened. If someone wants to go against principles and break their promises, then we will enter into another matter, and we will talk about something else."
