Chelsea plot major transfer overhaul with five exits

Chelsea
have been incredibly busy in the transfer market since a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought the club in May 2022, with more than £1billion being spent on 30 new players.

And with more signings expected in the upcoming January transfer window, the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability rules mean Chelsea are also looking to offload several players in order to help finance further incomings.

Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has already stated the club need to "improve in the next transfer market" and academy graduates Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja are among the players who could be on their way out as a result.

According to a report from the Athletic, Chelsea are willing to let Gallagher leave for a fee of around £40m despite the midfielder featuring in all but one Premier League game so far this season and regularly captaining the side.

The report states that Gallagher, who rejected a chance to join Everton last January, is attracting serious interest from Tottenham. The 23-year-old currently has 18 months left on his contract and it is claimed there 'has been no indication of any fresh talks', despite Gallagher wanting to stay.

Chalobah is also reportedly up for sale and has been linked with a number of clubs, including Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Roma and Crystal Palace. Broja, meanwhile, could depart if Chelsea end up signing another striker.

Brentford's Ivan Toney, Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko are on their radar. The report adds that left-back Ian Maatsen may also be on the move, given he also has just 18 months left on his current contract.

Chelsea accepted £31.5m bid from Burnley on transfer deadline day earlier this year, but the 21-year-old ultimately rejected the move. West Ham have been linked with a January swoop for Maatsen, while Manchester City are said to be among his admirers.
