Alexia Putellas undergoes surgical assessment on her left knee after ACL comeback

The forward suffered a significant impact during a Champions League match against Benfica on November 14, leading to her withdrawal at half-time despite scoring two goals in a 5-0 victory. Initial examinations on the same night showed no apparent injury, attributing the discomfort to the forceful impact on the knee. However, as the discomfort persisted, Putellas sought specialized medical advice. Despite numerous tests and MRIs, the root cause of the problem remained elusive, prompting the club's medical staff to opt for an arthroscopy—a minimally invasive surgical procedure on the joint.

Alexia Putellas undergoes surgical assessment on her left knee after ACL comeback

Barcelona put out a statement which read: "First-team FC Barcelona Women player Alexia Putellas has had an arthroscopy to examine her left knee. Doctor Joan Carles Monllau performed the procedure at Hospital de Barcelona, with supervision by the Club's Medical Services. She is unavailable for selection and her recovery will determine her return."Renowned Barcelona traumatologist Dr. Joan Carles Monllau will perform the arthroscopy, focusing on an internal examination of the knee. The expected recovery time typically spans from two to three months. Nevertheless, Lucy Bronze, the England international, underwent a comparable procedure and made a comeback in less than six weeks, offering optimism to Putellas for a potentially swifter recovery.
