Barcelona Likely to Miss Out on Inaugural Restructured Club World Cup in 2025

According to FIFA's plans, the first edition of the restructured Club World Cup is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2025 in the United States. European teams participating in the tournament will include past UEFA Champions League winners from the last five years and those with high points in European competitions. Additionally, there will be teams invited through wildcards. However, as per reports from the Daily Sport, Barcelona may miss out on this edition of the Club World Cup as FIFA has not outlined plans to invite Barcelona to the competition.

The Daily Sport suggests that UEFA has allocated a maximum of two non-wildcard spots for each league. Real Madrid has already secured one spot by winning the UEFA Champions League. Barcelona lags significantly behind Atletico Madrid by 7 points in UEFA's club competition rankings, making it challenging to surpass Atletico and claim the second spot. Consequently, Barcelona would need a wildcard invitation from FIFA to participate.

However, based on the current situation, FIFA does not appear inclined to extend an invitation to Barcelona.

The prospect of Barcelona missing out on the new Club World Cup is disappointing news for both the team and the fans. It not only means Barcelona will miss an opportunity to showcase its strength and competitiveness but could also impact the team's athletic development and commercial opportunities. Nevertheless, as fans, we should continue to support and look forward to the upcoming season, believing that Barcelona will continue to deliver exciting matches and pursue glory on the field.
