James Maddison Dropped From England's Euro 2024 Squad
England's attacking midfielder James Maddison has not been included in England's Euro 2024 squad. The Tottenham Hotspur player was part of the provisional 33-man selection by Gareth Southgate, but is now among the seven players to be axed from the final 26-man squad due on Saturday.
Maddison, valued at £40m, transitioned from Leicester to Tottenham last summer. Despite a promising start, his season was marred by injury setbacks resulting in an inconsistent performance. While he boasts seven senior England caps and was part of Southgate's assembly for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, he ironically did not make a pitch appearance during the tournament.
His latest impact on the field came to light during England's friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday, earning his spot off the bench in a decisive 3-0 victory at St James' Park. Yet, in a surprising turn of events, he now faces exclusion from the squad that'll journey to Germany for Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, recently back in training following an extended injury break, remains in contention. The final squad list for the tournament will be announced this Saturday, following their last warm-up friendly against Iceland at Wembley.
