Messi Contemplates Playing in 2026 World Cup – "Depends On How I Feel"
Argentine footballing legend Lionel Messi has expressed a possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup. Having played a significant role in securing victory for Argentina in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he initially intended for it to be his last appearance. However, Messi has since said he might consider a comeback if he is physically fit and can offer support to his teammates.
Having received the Golden Ball award after captaining Argentina to their third World Cup win, Messi, 37, has hinted at a potential return in the tournament to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The decision, he said, would depend on how he feels physically and whether he can realistically compete at the top level.
Messi shifted to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami after leaving European club football last summer. Amid the 2026 World Cup speculation, his current focus remains on defending the Copa America title with Argentina this summer, where the team will face Canada, Peru, and Chile in Group A, aiming to pull away from Uruguay to claim a record 16th title. Despite the tough competition, Messi remains confident about Argentina's chances, stating that Argentina is always a favorite, regardless of their past record.
