Maatsen is likely to be called up as a replacement for the Netherlands national team
Renowned journalist Romano has revealed that after Frenkie de Jong was ruled out of the European Championship due to injury, Maatsen is very likely to be called up as a replacement for the Netherlands national team.
Earlier today, the Netherlands FA released an official announcement stating that midfielder Frenkie de Jong will miss Euro 2024 due to an unhealed ankle injury. On social media, Romano stated, "It is understood that after Frenkie de Jong was confirmed to miss the European Championship due to injury, Maatsen has a very good chance (high probability) of being called up by Dutch coach Ronald Koeman as a replacement."
Earlier this year, 22-year-old Maatsen was loaned to Borussia Dortmund by Chelsea. Over the subsequent half-season, Maatsen made 23 appearances for Dortmund, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists, and helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final.
