Manchester United Close to First Summer Signing: Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United are on the verge of securing their first summer signing, with Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee close to joining the club. The 23-year-old Dutch international, who has a €34 million release clause, has been in positive discussions with United and his representatives.

Zirkzee, who impressed last season with Bologna, scoring 12 goals in Serie A, fits into United's plans to bolster their attacking options after the departures of Anthony Martial and the impending arrival of Rasmus Hojlund. Zirkzee provides a versatile option, able to play as a main striker or alongside Hojlund.

The Red Devils are also actively seeking reinforcements in defence, having lost Raphael Varane and with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof's contracts expiring next year. They've already made a bid for Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, which was rejected, and are exploring other options including Matthijs de Ligt, who could be available from Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag's contract has been extended by a year, and his backroom staff is being finalized, with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy potentially joining the team.

With several key positions still needing to be filled, Manchester United are expected to remain active in the transfer market. The arrival of Zirkzee, however, signals a positive start to their summer recruitment drive.
