Man United's next six transfers decided after Zirkzee and Matthijs 'agreement'

Man United's next six transfers decided after Zirkzee and Matthijs 'agreement'

Latest Manchester United transfer news as Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth continue to oversee a much-needed overhaul at Old Trafford

Manchester United are moving swiftly in the transfer market this summer and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's plans to improve on Erik ten Hag's squad are well underway.

United finished eighth in the Premier League last season to record their worst-ever finish in the top-flight. May's FA Cup final win over Manchester City ultimately saved Ten Hag from the axe but work is underway to improve next campaign.

The transfer window hasn't been opened long but the Red Devils are already moving cleverly to sign the right recruits. A new centre-back, central midfielder and striker have all been prioritised by the newly-formed recruitment team at Old Trafford.

Talks are ongoing over the signing of Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. Personal terms and agent commission are reportedly not set to be a problem for the Netherlands international, with the agreement from both clubs the deciding factor.

Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is also closing on sealing a move to United. After a first bid for Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite was turned down, attention was turned to De Ligt to reunite him with Ten Hag.

Whilst both players remain some distance away from being unveiled as Man United players, mainly due to the fact they are still in Germany for Euro 2024, United are expected to be working relentlessly behind-the-scenes to conclude as much business as possible before their pre-season tour trip to the USA.

Speculation linking United with a new central midfielder has cooled in recent weeks, in comparison to other positions. However, interest in Joao Neves, Adrien Rabiot and Amadou Onana has remained.

Casemiro's end of season form and uncertainty surrounding Sofyan Amrabat's future at the club has left Ten Hag desperate to bolster his options in midfield. It is also claimed that Scott McTominay, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could depart as part of Dan Ashworth's aim to raise funds.

A deal for a new midfielder at Old Trafford is more than certain to see at least one current star depart. Reports have claimed Fulham are in pole position for McTominay while there remains interest from Saudi Arabia for Casemiro.

Reassessing United's options in defence, it doesn't seem to be the case that De Ligt will be the only centre-back addition. The Athletic, who reported the breakthrough in personal terms with Zirkzee, have insisted the club are actively pursuing Lille defender Leny Yoro despite Real Madrid being regarded as the favourites to sign the teenager.

That could spell the end of Harry Maguire's time in red with new sporting director Ashworth reportedly deciding against keeping the England international. United paid £80m for his services in 2019 and there's a real desperation of avoiding losing him for nothing when his deal expires in 2025.

Donny van de Beek is closing in on a move to Girona while defensive duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof have both been linked with moves to Turkey.
