FA Eyes Howe and Potter as Potential Southgate Successors
The Football Association (FA) has shortlisted Eddie Howe and Graham Potter as potential candidates to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager, according to Sky Sports News. Southgate, whose contract expires in December, is contemplating his future following England's Euro 2024 final defeat.
The list also includes former Tottenham and Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino and current England U21 boss Lee Carsley. The FA aims to consider both experienced managers and those who have progressed through the national team ranks.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott will spearhead the decision-making process, with a preference for an English coach. Southgate's decision is expected soon, as the FA seeks to avoid delays with the Nations League campaign starting in six weeks.
Potter, currently unattached after being sacked by Chelsea, is reportedly interested in the role. However, Howe's situation is complex due to his current position at Newcastle and the potential compensation involved.
The FA remains tight-lipped on the matter as Southgate weighs his options.
