37-year-old veteran Suarez announces his retirement from the Uruguay national team

At a press conference, Luis Suárez announced his retirement from the Uruguay national team. This Friday, in the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay, he will play his last match wearing the Uruguay national team jersey.

Suárez said, "Friday will be my last match representing the Uruguay national team. This is something I have been thinking about and analyzing for a while, and now is the right time. I will play this match with the same passion as I did during my debut in 2007." At 7:30 a.m. Beijing time on September 7, Uruguay will face Paraguay in the World Cup qualifier.

The 37-year-old Suárez has represented the Uruguay national team in 142 matches, scoring 69 goals and providing 39 assists. He has participated in five World Cup qualifiers and four World Cups and won the 2011 Copa América with the team.
