Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham Among Competitors for Ballon d'Or 2024; Ceremony Scheduled for October 28
The much-anticipated Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony has been announced to take place on October 28. Revelations surrounding an intriguing list of contenders have added fervor to the event. Lionel Messi is the reigning winner with a record eighth Golden Ball, while Aitana Bonmati took the fifth edition of the Women's Ballon d'Or in 2023.
UEFA and French media company Groupe Amaury will co-organize this year's ceremony. Notable awards to look forward to, besides the Ballon d'Or and Ballon d'Or Feminine, are the Kopa Trophy, Yashin Trophy, Gerd Muller Trophy, and Men’s and Women’s Club of the Year trophies.
Key contenders in the men’s category include Vinicius Jr, who had an impressive season despite injuries with 24 goals and 11 assists for Real Madrid. Jude Bellingham, known for his exceptional first year at Real Madrid, and Phil Foden, were also highlighted.
Kylian Mbappe, rumored to be moving to Real Madrid, and Harry Kane, who scored 44 goals in 45 games for Bayern Munich, are also on the contenders’ list.
In the women's category, Aitana Bonmati is expected to be a strong contender for a second Golden Ball. Other pivotal players include Caroline Graham Hansen, Lauren James, Kadidiatou Diani, and Alexia Putellas.
The official nominees will be announced on September 4.
