Phil Foden responds to claim he bottled England penalty after Alexander-Arnold revelation
Phil Foden has spoken out to address speculation that he refused to take a penalty in England's recent shootout victory against Switzerland.
After being substituted for Alexander-Arnold in extra time, Foden was caught on camera saying he would have taken a penalty if he was still on the field, but he acknowledged that England's regular penalty takers were more experienced and therefore, in his view, better suited for the task.
Foden has confirmed he would have stepped up had he been needed, but felt confident in the team's designated penalty takers. He admitted to being nervous watching the shootout from the sidelines but expressed complete belief in his teammates.
Foden's comments seem to address the speculation sparked by a revealing clip where Alexander-Arnold told his brothers about a teammate's hesitation to take a penalty, although he did not identify anyone by name. However, Foden's response has cleared the air, confirming it was not him who declined the opportunity to take the spot kick.
