Manchester City considered signing 19-year-old Icelandic forward Orri Oskarsson as a backup for Erling Haaland

According to The Athletic's renowned journalist David Ornstein, Manchester City considered signing 19-year-old Icelandic forward Orri Oskarsson as a backup for Erling Haaland, but it now seems unlikely that they will push forward with the deal.

Journalist David Ornstein reports that Manchester City had considered signing Copenhagen forward Orri Oskarsson as a backup for Haaland. However, it now appears that City is unlikely to proceed with this deal, although they still highly appreciate Oskarsson. The 19-year-old Icelandic forward is expected to leave Copenhagen before the summer transfer window closes.

Oskarsson has become one of the most threatening attacking players in Europe, attracting many suitors. He has already scored 7 goals in 11 matches this season. The transfer fee for the Iceland international is expected to be around 20 million euros, plus add-ons.

If Manchester City decides to strengthen their forward line before the transfer deadline on Friday, Oskarsson is one of the targets they are considering, along with Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi. However, it currently seems unlikely that City will further pursue their interest. Other Premier League clubs are also in the race for Oskarsson, with Porto and Real Sociedad among the competitors.

Despite Julián Alvarez's move to Atlético Madrid and Oscar Bobb being sidelined with an injury, Pep Guardiola and the club's management are satisfied with the current squad and will only make signings if the right opportunity arises.
